To you, language is more than words—it’s a key to culture, thought, and magic itself. You’ve studied dialects both modern and ancient, deciphered runes no one else dared to touch, and broken more than a few ciphers with ink-stained fingers.
Were you raised among many tongues or drawn to language by mystery? Have you uncovered forbidden scripts or invented your own? Who taught you the one word no one else remembers?
- Equipment. A work-in-progress grammar or dictionary, a copy of an undeciphered inscription or 2 sheets of parchment, a bottle of black ink, a quill, a set of common clothes.
- Tools & Languages. Calligrapher’s Supplies, three Languages of your choice
- Backround Knowledge. You have advantage on ability checks related to languages, writing, and determining written words’ language.
- Tongue of Many Lands. When you hear a language you don’t know, you can make an Intelligence (Investigation) check (DC 15) to understand the gist of its meaning and pick up a few keywords or phrases. Also, you can ably create written ciphers. Others can’t decipher a code you create unless you teach them, they succeed on an Intelligence check (DC equal to your Intelligence score + your proficiency bonus), or they use magic to decipher it.
